Applicants for GITEP’s Art and Design ITT course will have a degree in art related specialisms, and the portfolio represents an important part of the interview process.  Candidates will need to demonstrate that they have considered how to develop their subject knowledge in the National Curriculum, GCSE and A level requirements for Art and Design , especially where topics have not been covered by their degree.  They should display an awareness of educational issues and possess a desire to inspire, motivate and engage with young people about the possibilities open to them in studying Art and Design.

Every Thursday afternoon you will come together with your fellow Art and Design trainees and your Subject Lead. This unique element of our course provides the opportunity for you to learn more about your subject and the pedagogy surrounding it as well as share good practice with your colleagues. Subject Pathway sessions are incredibly varied and include workshops, seminars, guest speakers and trips.

The course provides lots of opportunities for trainees to develop their practical skills linking with the work of contemporary artists.

A subject tutor from the University of Bristol will introduce the PGCE assignments on curriculum practice and curriculum research.  The University of Bristol does not offer its own Art PGCE and these assignments are specially designed for GITEP.
