We are really proud of the strong partnership that we have built with our local schools and equally proud that such a large proportion of our trainees go on to teach and have great careers in our partnership schools. Training with GITEP can lead to a wide variety of roles including in leadership, pastoral care, specialist teaching or mentoring the next generation of trainee and early career teachers. Here’s where some of our alumni are now:
Dan Hudson, Headteacher

I chose to train with GITEP because I wanted to teach in the county I grew up in and valued their school-centred approach. From the very start, I was immersed in real classrooms, which gave me the hands-on experience I wanted.
I trained to teach ICT and began my career as a Teacher of ICT and Computing in a Gloucester secondary school. Over the years, I progressed to Head of Year, Associate Member of SLT, then Assistant Headteacher in Bristol, and Deputy Headteacher for Curriculum in Swindon. I am now in my fourth year as Headteacher of Holmleigh Park back in Gloucester.
Training with GITEP laid the foundation for my career. The practical support, mentoring and professional development helped me take on leadership roles across different schools and contexts. Along the way, I’ve been fortunate to work in three of the country’s largest multi-academy trusts; Oasis, United Learning, and Greenshaw, which has further enriched my professional growth and networks. Looking back, GITEP not only helped me start my career but continues to influence how I lead in education today.
Gemma Hargraves, Deputy Head – Safeguarding, Inclusion and Wellbeing

As a career changer I chose GITEP as it was local, and had a good reputation. I had previously worked in the military and in consultancy, and found the GITEP community to be really supportive. The History subject lead was great and led weekly sessions discussing relevant and evidence based articles. These sessions helped me delve deeper into subject specific pedagogy and started me on a journey of research and volunteering with the History community that continues to this day. I am now a Deputy Headteacher (Pastoral) and find this work really rewarding, but I retain my love of History teaching that began with my GITEP training, and for that I am grateful.
