At GITEP, physics, chemistry and biology trainees are taught together as one science group and all receive extra subject development training during the first term. Last week, Chemistry was the focus and trainees learnt about common chemical reactions covered in the KS3 curriculum.

These additional subject development days during the first term help develop trainees’ subject knowledge in all 3 sciences and the pedagogy surrounding it. They also address common pupil misconceptions and where they frequently arise and provide the opportunity to practise teaching new processes and ideas before delivering lessons to pupils.
