Why train with GITEP?

Ousted Outstanding Provider
Training is recognised as outstanding by Ofsted

The 2023 Ofsted inspection commented that trainees feel “extremely well support by all members of the partnership”. The course is described as “highly inclusive” ensuring all trainees receive equitable opportunities and is “transformational” in helping trainees to develop as teachers. Ofsted felt the curriculum is “ambitious” and “extremely well integrated” and led by Subject Leads, Professional Leads and Subject Mentors “whose knowledge and practice are rooted firmly in evidence-informed research”. GITEP are proud that inspectors recognised our trainees are very well prepared to start their careers as teachers.

Training that is school-based and school-led

We believe that the best place to learn to teach is in school. Not only do our trainees spend most of their time in Partnership schools learning from experienced and highly skilled teachers, but lectures and workshops are also delivered by serving practitioners who are experts in their fields. For those needing a more flexible route through their training, we also offer a part-time option in all subjects.

The opportunity to gain a PGCE

Although the programme is predominantly school-based, trainees work towards a PGCE University of Bristol(Post Graduate Certificate in Education) worth 60 Masters credits, which is awarded by the University of Bristol.

Our track record

GITEP has been training teachers for over 25 years. Many of our mentors, professional leads and subject leads are themselves former GITEP trainees. Our employability rates are close to 100% and to understand the impact GITEP has had on schools in Gloucestershire and beyond, visit our Alumni page to get a flavour of the wide range of roles former GITEP trainees now play in our partnership schools. This includes members of our leadership team who are hugely experienced, with a long history of involvement in teacher training.

Support that is second to none

Our purpose is to recruit and train the best teachers for our schools. We want people who train with GITEP to achieve their full potential. Trainees have a subject mentor and a professional lead in their placement schools, a subject lead who meets them weekly, subject tutors from the University of Bristol and course leaders who know them well. Ofsted commented that “trainees receive well considered, personalised support to enable them to succeed”.

Our schools

Ofsted described GITEP as selecting placements “with extreme care to ensure that trainees develop a broad knowledge of school contexts”. Our Partnership includes some of the highest performing schools in the country, including the two Teaching School Hubs in Gloucestershire. They also include a complete mix of comprehensive, selective, mixed and single sex, urban and rural schools.
