GITEP SCITT is a unique collaboration between all the secondary schools in Gloucestershire who work together in a SCITT (school-centred initial teacher training provider). Created in 1997, GITEP SCITT is well established and very highly regarded.
We offer QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) with PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education) awarded by the University of Bristol. We also offer flexible routes in all subject areas for those wishing to complete the course part-time. At our last inspection, in May 2023, Ofsted judged our training to be outstanding.

Most SCITTs are based around one school or teaching school alliance. GITEP draws on over 40 secondary schools in the county, as well as some in neighbouring counties, with Gloucestershire’s two Teaching School Hubs as Lead Partners:
Each SCITT has an accredited school and ours is The Balcarras Trust in Cheltenham. Our partner for PGCE, the University of Bristol and our trainees have access to the University’s extensive library as well as the full range of student services offered by the University.
